Foliar
Fertilization - Insta-Cal Plus - Insta-K - Insta-Sul

Solution - Manure & Lagoon Digester
Foliar Fertilization is the most efficient way to increase yield and plant health. Insta-Gro research has shown increases of 12% to 25%!
Dr. H.B. Turkey, head, Department of Horticulture at Michigan State College in Co-Operation with the U.S. Atomic Energy research commission says this is the most efficient method of applying fertilizer to plants that we have yet discussed, if we apply these materials to the leaves in soluble forms as much as 95% of what is applied may be used by the plant. If we apply a simlar amount to the soil, we find about 10 percent of it to be used. Dr. H.B. Turkey goes on to say in clay loam and in organic soil foliar applications were 6 times more efficiently utilized thru soil applications but in the sandy loam the foliar applications was utilized 20 times as efficiently as in the soil application.
Foliar feeding works when properly applied and very profitable, remember Insta-Gro is formulated for foliar feeding not all fertilizers will perform the way Insta-Gro will.

Foliar Feeding - Its Impact on Crop Production
In the changing times of modern agriculture the opportunities of foliar feeding means profit dollars to customers.
Plants absorb nutrients through both the root system and the top growth (leaves and stems). In the time of drought there is not enough moisture in the soil to make nutrients available to the root system; they require that nutrients be water soluble to be utilized. Characteristically., plants in time time of stress, at a foliar feeding operation stimulate the growth of the plant so it will continue to grow during a stress period. As the foliar feeding is done with a solution, the plant can make use of those nutrients immediately. The use of this procedure can bridge the economically dangerous period when the plants are going through stress periods in their growth.
The tracing of nutrient flow throughout the plant, with the aid of radioactive isotrope tracers, show that the application of plant food on even the youngest growth has a great effect on the total plant growth. INSTA-GRO solutions, Insta-Gro, Insta-Cal, Insta-K and Insta-Sul, are available for foliar feeding to help Insta-Gro customers enforce the best possible growth patterns for all their crops.
Conventional spray equipment available on most farms is satisfactory for foliar feeding applications; therefore, no expensive added machinery is needed.
GUIDELINES FOR FOLIAR FEEDING APPLICATIONS
New patterns in this rapidly developing field will be passed on to INSAT-GRO customers as they are available. Specific recommendations for each crop are elsewhere in this publication.
FIELD CORN, POPCORN, SUNFLOWERS, AND MILO
1st Spray:
Apply 3 to 5 gallons Insta-Gro 9-18-9-1 per acre 28 to 32 days
after emerging corn can be seen in the rows.
2nd Spray:
Apply 4 to 8 gallons
Insta-Gro 9-18-9-1 per acre 2 weeks before tasseling.
If hastening maturity is desirable, foliar feed
3 to 5 gallons of Insta-Gro 3-18-18-1 when corn
is in dough stage.
SWEET CORN
On sweet corn use the
same program as field corn except use one
additional foliar feeding between
ear initiation and pre-tass.
Do not spray corn between 32 and 38 days after emergence.
WHEAT, OATS, AND BARLEY
Foliar feeding of small grains can be most profitable if sprayed at the right stages of growth or development. Most crops are sprayed too late rather than too early. All small grains should be sprayed before the first joint appears in stalk, (usually between 2" and 4" high). This will increase stooling and yield. Application rates: 3 to 5 gallons of Insta-Gro 9-18-9-1 per acre.
If earlier maturity is desired, spray in dough
stage with Insta-Gro 3-18-18-1 at the rate of 3
to 5 gallons per acre.
FLAX
1st Spray:
3 to 5 gallons of Insta-Gro 9-18-9-1 per acre when plants are
4" to 5" high for increased stooling and set.
2nd Spray
(optional):
Spray 10 days before
full bloom. This will increase set and
fill out flax balls. Always spray
in the evening.
SOYBEANS
There never is just a fertilizer program for soybeans, it is the Insta-Gro foliar feeding program that really works! The soybean plant likes its food pre-digested. Dry Fertilizer should be applied one year in advance for best results. This gives the soil time to convert the fertilizer to plant food. Insta Gro is already in plant food form and immediately ready to go to work. Insta-Gro Bean Special is in the roots of the bean plant in seconds after being sprayed!
1st Spray:
Apply 3 to
5 gallons of Insta-Gro 9-18-9-1 or 3-18-18-1 per acre when plant is in the
3 to 5 trifoliate leaf stage. In areas where rainfall is sufficient, use
3-18-18-1. If rainfall is insufficient, use 9-18-9-1.
2nd Spray:
Apply 5 gallons
of Insta-Gro Bean Special when plant has set 70% to 85% of pods. This last
Spray gives the bean plant food when it needs it most, forming and filling
pods.
Foliar feeding beans give an 8 to 15 bushel per acre increase.
NAVY BEANS, SNAP BEANS, POLE BEANS
1st Spray:
Apply 3 to 5 gallons
of Insta-Gro 9-18-9-1 when 4" to 6" high and again when pods are
setting.
2nd Spray:
Use 3-18-18-1 to fill out the pods.
On snap beans use 9-18-9-1 for all sprays to provide extra picking.
SPECIAL NOTICE
The additional -1 on each formula indicates the sulphur content, 1% sulphur or 3% sulphate.
ALWAYS APPLY FOLIAR FEEDING IN THE EVENING
